Does not eating after 6 o'clock works if you want to lost weight?

I was just wondering if this really helps. You know, not eating heavy or nothing at all after 6 can really help you to lose weight? If not can you suggest some other effective yet not-so-much hassle ways?

don't eat less calories per day - eat more calories in the morning for breakfast and less at night because you sleep on it and don't exercise it off!

unless you DO exercise after dinner in which case you need calories then as well.
